The Abc’s of Vitamin D

5:30 Boys Working Hard...

Most of us are deficient in Vitamin D and don’t even know it. Sun exposure helps us manufacture our own Vitamin D but with us spending less time in the sun unprotected, we aren’t making what our bodies need and it is difficult to get what we need from our food. Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to many autoimmune diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis and Rheumatoid Arthritis and may play a role in preventing particular cancers. Bone and muscle health depends heavily on Vitamin D as well. Studies have shown that Vitamin D can speed up muscle recovery and enhance athletic performance. The list of diseases and disorders that Vitamin D affects goes on and on. It even affects your sleep. So what do we do? Ask your Doctor to test your Vitamin D levels. Take a supplement if you are low (just don’t take it at night…it inhibits melatonin you need for a good night’s sleep). Personally, I have noticed a big difference in my recovery time when I started supplementing with both Vitamin D and Fish Oil and I believe it is definitely worth looking into!
