It’s that time of year….you know, where there is food EVERYWHERE and none of it is on the “good for you” list. Candy, cookies, mashed potatoes drenched in gravy, pie – it’s everywhere and it’s just going to get worse. So the big question is, what do you do about it? You have been busting your butt in the gym and now you are faced with your nemesis – plates piled with brownies, gingerbread men and peanut butter cups. Do you turn it all down, insult your mother-in-law, alienate friends and be miserable? Or do you eat everything in sight, and then berate yourself the next time you hop on the scale or try to fit into those jeans that suspiciously “shrank” the last time you washed them? How about neither. How about…moderation?? You CAN have your cake and eat it too…seriously, it’s possible. And if you go off one evening and stuff yourself like a Build-A-Bear animal? Forgive and forget. It’s not cheating, it’s a CHOICE. You made the choice, accept it and move on. Get into the gym, eat SENSIBLY and move on. If you find that one night leads to another, and another and another and pretty soon you find that your sock drawer is full of empty candy wrappers and ice cream cartons, well, that’s another issue altogether. There is something else going on and eating is just a response to a stressor. If you have the strength to pick up the barbell, you have the strength to JUST EAT ONE. Moderate, forgive yourself and get help from somebody if you really think you have a problem. That’s what coaches are for…
